There were big smiles and laughter on the faces of students during a recent graduation ceremony of the Elementary Mandarin course held at Confucius Institute, SEGi University.
Confucius Institute director, Chen Ming Hui and a Mandarin teacher at the institute, Mou delivered their speeches at the graduation ceremony.
Chen extended his gratitude to the students for choosing to learn Mandarin and congratulated them for completing the courses.
In his speech, he shared how the students progressed from scratch to major improvements as they can now read Chinese characters using the romanization system with hanyu pinyin. He commended that it was part and parcel of a learning process and also a good start for the students.
Meanwhile, Hou said she was glad to see the students learned the language through various group activities in the classroom. She hoped that students can work harder so that they can pursue their studies in China in the future.
One of the students, Nurul shared her success in conversing in basic Mandarin for communication purposes and also understand more about Chinese culture through the language.
Another student, Wong Kay Hong expressed his happiness for successfully learning the language and added he would recommend the course to his friends.
