SEGi University’s First Year Chemical Engineering Student, Shabinthran Vasanthasegran emerged as Champion in the Technical Essay Writing category at the National Chemical Engineering Symposium (NACES) 2016 themed ‘X-Solution: Food-Water- Energy Nexus’. Held at the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus (UNMC), the symposium serves as a platform for chemical engineering students to demonstrate their technical knowledge, creative thinking and effective communication skills in generating innovative solutions for global development issues while learning the significance of professional engineering practices and awareness in sustainable energy supplies.
The National Chemical Engineering Symposium (NACES) is an annual, national-level event organised by the Chemical Engineering Student Society of Universities in Malaysia, in collaboration with Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), Malaysia.
When asked for his advice to fellow Chemical Engineering students interested in participating in next year’s NACES Technical Essay Writing (TEW) challenge, Shabinthran said the key was to do as much preliminary reading as possible and to constantly consult with lecturers and peers for constructive criticism. He also expressed his heartfelt appreciation towards two of his Technical Essay Writing advisors (Dr. Wong Voon Loong and Dr. Ong Chi Siang) for their guidance.
