Dental Undergraduates Survival Kit (DUSK 2.0)

SEGi Dental Society (SDS) from SEGi University is pleased to have hosted one of the largest events, The Dental Undergraduates Survival Kit 2.0 (DUSK 2.0) On Dec 2 and 3 recently.

Organised by the Malaysian Dental Students’ Association (MDSA), the event was aimed at instilling the fundamental knowledge on the practice of dentistry, especially on handling medical and dental emergencies in clinical practice, and to enlighten dental students on various dental specialisations.

A total of 220 participants attended the event, consisting of current students and new graduates. DUSK 2.0 was graced by Prof Azrin Ariffin (Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Division at SEGi University) who also officiated the Conference.

Chinese New Year Event

Organiser : Chinese Cultural Society (CCS)

Chinese Cultural Society (CCS) organized a Chinese New Year event called “Woof Woof Festival” in  collaboration with Student Affair Division at Multipurpose Hall, SEGi University on 28 February 2018. Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Prof. Azrin Ariffin attended the event.

In this event, they had the performances such as the Magic Show from Anthony Chong, Sichuan Face Changing and also the dancing from the members of Chinese Cultural Society. Furthermore, they also gave out  angpao prizes to the winners of Woof Woof photo in the Instagram or Facebook.

By the end of the event, the audiences were invited to Piazza to release the lantern and most of them enjoyed the moment.

Runaid 2018

SEGi Dental Society (SDS) hosted a charity run “RUNAID 2018” on March 18 at SEGi University, Kota Damansara for Dentistry for the Needy (DFTN), a programme under the Islamic Dental Association of Malaysia (IDAM) which delivers dental care to the needy and the homeless.

The event received an overwhelming response from the public with 720 participants of all ages. The run was officiated by SEGi University Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Patrick Kee, who flagged off the men’s category at 7.30 am, followed by Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Prof Azrin Ariffin flagging of the women’s category some 10 minutes later.

The first prize winners of both the men and women categories received a trophy each, Rocktape and a getaway voucher of two days, one night room at Redang Island, inclusive of breakfast worth more than RM720. The hotel voucher was sponsored by Laguna Resort Island. Meanwhile, the second prize winners in both categories each received a trophy, Rocktape and Loha ukulele worth RM258, sponsored by The Academy Music Centre. The third prize winners received a trophy and Rocktape each, while the fourth and fifth prize winners received a Rocktape.

SEGi Olympics

SEGi Olympics is an annual event organised by SEGi University Student Representatives’ Council (SRC).  They were 13 games offered – Badminton, Chess, Dota, Pool, Cricket, Volleyball, Futsal, Bowling, Foosball, Fifa, Arm Wrestling, Basketball and Ping Pong.

The event was held for 1 week. The opening of the event was held at Dictator Stage and the closing ceremony was at the Multipurpose Hall (MPH). SRC received good support from the clubs and societies in making sure the event was conducted efficiently.

4th MyPSA National Clinical Pharmacy Challenge

SEGi Pharmacy Students’ Association (SPSA) has organised the MyPSA National Clinical Pharmacy Challenge at SEGi University from 6 – 8 April 2018. The students from Faculty of Pharmacy in SEGi University recently won second- runner up in the 4th MyPSA National Clinical Pharmacy Challenge 2018. It is a clinical competition open to participants from the Faculty of Pharmacy of public and private universities.

The teams were judged based on their skills in assessing patient information and current therapy, identifying and prioritising drug therapy problems, identifying treatment goals and formulating a comprehensive pharmacy care plan. This year, SEGi University has won third place in the MyPSA National Clinical Pharmacy Challenge 2018.

Nowruz Celebration

Nowruz Celebration is a Persian and Central Asian New Year Celebration. It means new day. SISS has took an initiativs to organize the Nowruz Celebration in SEGi University because we have students from Kazakhstan, China, India, Iran and other Central Asia countries. They have came with a new concept where the main idea is the sketch concept which can showcase more traditional elements from Central Asia countries. The event has been attended by Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Prof. Azrin Ariffin and other Student Affairs staff.

Leadership Camp

Leadership Camp is an annual program organised by Student Affairs Division for the leaders of clubs and societies and the SRC. This year, the training was organised at Kem ABC, Janda Baik, Pahang for 3 days from 6 until 8 April 2018. 45 students and 9 staff has attended the camp. The participants were overwhelmed with the presence of Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Prof. Azrin Ariffin on the 2nd day.

Indians New Year

Indian’s New Year was organized by SEGi Kural Society on 12th April 2018 at SEGi University. This event aimed to let the students know more about Indian culture. The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Prof Azrin Ariffin, Prof. Morgana, Mr. Stephen(advisor of SEGi Kural Society), Mr. Ravindran and Student Affairs Staff. Watoto Children Concert

Organiser : Youth Ablaze

The WATOTO Children’s Choir was organised by Youth Ablaze Christian Fellowship. This concert brought the Watoto Choir – an African children’s choir featuring high spirited songs and dances from Uganda. 707 tickets has been sold. Before the event started in the evening, the choir team has been brought to VC Room for the Meet & Greet Session with the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Prof. Azrin Ariffin.

The audience started register at 7.00pm and the door opened on 7.30pm. The event started with the video promotion of WATOTO and also Youth Ablaze Christian Fellowship. At 8.00pm, performances started. Everyone looks enjoyed and dancing together. There was also sales of WATOTO album and handcraft item after the event. Photo booth was available for audience to take pictures with the choir team.

Iftar Charity Project

Iftar Charity Project was organised by SEGi University Volunteers Community in collaboration with Student Affairs Division of SEGi University. Previous two years, we’re giving out the bubur lambuk to the community. However, this year we has decided to give back to SEGians by having an Iftar in SEGi University. With an assistance of Chef Munawar from School of Hospitality and Tourism, we successfully prepared the dishes – Chicken Rendang, Nasi Minyak, Kuah Kacang and Nasi Himpit, Onion Fritters and other dessert. Students and staff irregardless of race and religion came together for the breaking fast.

Eid-ul Fitri Prayer

Eid-ul-Fitr is a day of celebration which is celebrated by the Muslim. It is an important festival for all Muslim around the world. Every year, Youth of Hope has taken the responsibility to organised the Eid prayer for the muslim (SEGians) who cannot go back to their hometown. With this arrangement, it motivate and develop a multicultural gathering where everybody can come together regardless their nationality and races.

AMSA Health Day

AMSA Health Day is an annual event organised by Asian Medical Student Association Malaysia (AMSA). The programmes that has been conducted on that day were selling of food and beverages, henna drawing, Zumba flashmob, checking of BMI index value and so on. Most of the games and campaign that was running is to create the awareness on coronary heart diseases.

Charity Zumba

Charity Zumba was an event organised by the SRC to promote health and raise funds for a charity organization – Yayasan Chow Kit. This event as conducted by the professional Zumba Zin. All the participants were given a glow stick as part of the theme where they conducted the Zumba in the dark.

MASISWA Futsal Championship Grand Final

SEGi University Futsal Team has qualified into MASISWA Futsal Championship Grand Final next year 2018. MASISWA Futsal Championship 2017 was organized by British Malaysian Institute (BMI) and MASISWA from 3 – 5 November 2017 in International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), Gombak. On that tournament, SEGi was qualified into Quarter final, SEGi was met Malaysian France Institute (MFI). SEGi has lost in Quarter final, however SEGi qualified in to grand final in year 2018. It was a national level competition and open to all universities and colleges in Malaysia. Over than 36 universities were participated in this Games and Congratulation to SEGi Futsal Team, “The best in you, made possible”.

Varsity Basketball League (VBL) 2018

Varsity Basketball League (VBL) 2018 had officially started on 3 March 2018, Saturday. The event is sanctioned by the Malaysian Basketball Association of Malaysia (MABA). SEGi University had been prepared well for this largest Basketball event. SEGi University was represented by 12 players and most of them were International students. The tournament took place at UCSI University, Taman Connaught, Cheras. SEGi University players showed a good relationship with each other, intelligence and good spirit. As advisor of the club, we would like to thank to Prof. Azrin and we wish all the best wishes for them!

Nottingham Ultimate Taekwondo Showdown 2018

Muhammad Zubair has won the Gold medal in Nottingham Ultimate Taekwondo Showdown 2018 at Nottingham University. He won in Sparring for Heavy Weight Category. The event was held on 23 – 25 March and organized by Taekwondo Malaysia collaboration with Nottingham University.

Workshop on Bullying

The mini workshop was held with the 24 students from Guidance and Counseling class, with the aim to develop more practical ways of handling bullying through group activities, presentation and role play.

Basic Counseling Skills Training

A total of 14 selected peer counselors attended the training on basic counseling skills on Saturday, 17th March 2018, the day after their Oath Taking ceremony.

Peer Counselors are trained with the objective to outreach others that having emotional distress. They’ll be trained continuous while rendering their services to assist in all counseling related programs. With the additional befriending skills, they’ll be reaching out to their friends and live up to the peer counselor slogan “Listen More, Judge Less.”

Role Play Exercise

Role Play Exercise  (3 & 5th July 2018)

Two sessions of role play training had been conducted for peer counselors, to assist them in refreshing their basic counseling skills. Each peer helper is paired up, took turns and performed the task as counselor and client, and vice versa. During the mock session, they are observed by registered counselors, and expected to use basic questioning skills such as open ended question, paraphrase, summarizing, reflection of feelings, attending behavior and etc. The role play was held with the purpose to refresh and sharpen the knowledge that they have learnt throughout the training, hence enable them to reach out to those that are having hard time and need a listening ear. It was held as preparatory for the upcoming listening community projects that would be held at SEGi and Cittamall.
