Founder and MD of SEGi Inspires All

The founder and also Managing Director of SEGi University and Colleges, Tan Sri Clement Hii, shared his life journey to inspire SEGians to aspire and persevere to achieve success.

Entitled “A Journey against All Odds,” the talk was held in SEGi University and was attended by top management and key academic employees, as well as students of SEGi University.

Tan Sri Clement Hii shared his views and experiences from his childhood years to his current life. Hailing from a poor family from Sibu, Sarawak, his first entrepreneurial experience was as a newspaper vendor at aged 9. Later, he contributed articles to the Borneo Bulletin, a weekly paper in Brunei where he translated news stories from Sarawak’s Chinese newspapers with the help of his father.

At the age of 20, he became the Chief Editor of the Borneo Post, East Malaysia’s largest English paper. His Deputy Chief Editor was his Form Two English teacher. Later, he decided to go to college to learn law. Upon graduation, he bought over the institution. As a result, he has been named “Hii who bought his college”.

Tan Sri Clement Hii claims that his journey is akin to a roller coaster ride as well as an incredible experience. He has also learned from some big mistakes made along the way. He coined himself in business a “Johnny-Come-Lately” as he allowed others to take the lead as he does not want to re-invent the wheel. He hopes to not make any more mistakes.

To date, SEGi University and Colleges has over 27,500 students, in five major campuses located in Klang Valley, Penang and Sarawak.
