Global English Fair 2017 at Cheongju, Korea

Two Malaysian students were chosen as presenters of the Global English Fair 2017 at Seowon University in Cheongju, South Korea.

Samuel Ng Yung Sern and Samantha Lee Mae Yan, who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in education, majoring in TESL (Teaching of English as Second Language) at the Faculty of Education in SEGi University, Kota Damansara represented the institution at the five-day event from November 28 to December 2.

They were among the 21 speakers at the fair that was also attended by foreign students from other countries including Vietnam, and also foreign professors.

During the event, Ng spoke about the Revival of the English Language and it received positive responses from the crowd as guests laughed and nodded in agreement during the session.

“The opportunity given has benefitted me because following my participation in the conference, I learnt more about the education system in South Korea,” said Ng.

Meanwhile, Lee said the Global English Fair allowed her to share experiences as a pre-service trainee teacher with like-minded people driving towards the betterment of society.

The duo also received 500,000 won (RM1,876) and were brought around to several popular tourist attractions in Seoul during their stay in South Korea.
The Global English Fair 2017 was organized by the Faculty of English Department, Seowon University.

Chair of the English Department, Prof Daebin Kim said the fair was aimed at developing the relationship between the Faculty of Education at SEGi University and his department.

“We intend to focus on improving the rapport between the two countries, Malaysia and South Korea,” he explained.

SEGi University offers the Bachelor of Education (Hons) in collaboration with University of St Mark & St John, UK. This is a dual degree programme aimed at preparing students to meet the demands in the teaching profession for both public and private education institutions.

Students can choose from four specialisations which are Early Childhood Education, Special Needs Education, TESL, and Guidance & Counselling.
