Volunteering from the Heart

SEGi University’s Counselling Centre under the Student Affairs Division held the 9th Student Intellectual Discourse entitled “Volunteerism: A Gift to the Community”. There were 4 student speakers: Paing Patrya and Anastashia Shawna Theseira from the Faculty of Business Accountancy & Management, Tan Mei Ping from the School of Communication Studies, and Edweena Dashini David Rajiah from the Faculty of Education. The dialogue was moderated by Professor Dr Azrin Ariffin, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.

The students spoke of their experiences in volunteering at various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) ranging from soup kitchens, religious organisations, and remote villages. They also touched on how volunteering was beneficial to both parties, themselves as volunteers as well as the receivers.

The discourse is a platform to enable students to exchange views and notions on today’s issues, to encourage an unbiased generation who are willing to consider new ideas and arguments, and to develop positive characteristics and an active mind.

Well done to the student speakers for such an insightful dialogue!
